PART THREE:
This is my last blog. I would like to recapitulate my entire
experience (in short) and learning which I had acquired.
It all started with an announcement of Individual survey
Project focusing on how an individual/group/company sells a product or service?
We had to learn by observing and conversing with them and share it in a form of
blog. I chose Tour & Travels market of Mahabs. I had visited Mahabs thrice
for this purpose. I visited three different Travel shops to understand some
intricacies for this business from marketing viewpoint.
First was Mahabs Tour. It was a new shop. It was mainly into
Hotel Packages. Next shop which I visited was JRS tours. It was into the
business for 40 years. Next on the list is P.A Tours. It also had a good market
share. To compare all these, MT is a new entrant, PA is in its adulthood and
JRS is an oldie. I was happy to survey three shops that had spent different
time span in this business. However
marketing strategy and pricing strategy didn’t differ much. They all knew what
is needed to be felt in market. Word of mouth was an answer by all three. Few differentiating factors were- history in
this business, business associations, product mix. They varied a bit on these
parameters.
Marketing lessons surveyed and learnt are:
·
Offer a better product mix and deliver high
customer value.
·
You need attractive packing to sell your good.
·
Word of Mouth still holds well in small markets-
Build chain of network.
·
Use Local Media
·
Price as per your target customers.
·
History in a business helps.
·
Business Associations helps design better
product.
Some of these lessons were / will be taught in few months
but happy to discover them. To end, it
was great fun to interact with people who do what you will be taught in MBA.
Learning from experience is really a worth.
